Haines Alaska - In the field with Field
Reflecting on one of many assignment with Field Productions. Looking back to the production of skifilm Supervention 2. We are in Alaska. It brings back a vivid sense of what that experience entailed. With renowned athletes like Aksel Lund Svindal, Eirik Finseth, and Aasmund Thorsen featuring in front of the camera. I felt a mixture of excitement and trepidation, aware of the significance of the opportunity and eager to deliver results that lived up to the high expectations set by such a prestigious project.
In march 2015, mid day, I landed in Haines Alaska. The flight was spectacular (in all aspects), and I was so amaized by the breathtaking scenery. I did on the other hand arrive from another AK destination, Cordova, so I was staring to get used to having my jaw drop everywere.
Warmup Run Our day began at the base of Mount Tomahawk in Haines—a mountain as legendary as it is formidable. With our skis ready and eyes on the ridges, we scoped our first lines under the watchful guidance of our seasoned guide, who, after a reassuring check of a freshly dug snowpit, suggested a lighter run for a warmup.
Finseth glanced at the towering slopes, the morning light casting long shadows over the snow, and replied with a grin, "Warmup run? This is our warmup run."
Aksel Lund Svindal dropped in first, carving a path through the pristine snow, followed by Finseth. Thorsen took the final line, choosing a daring descent straight down the main chute—a scenic yet challenging route. Capturing these moments, I wished I could fully convey the immense scale of Mount Tomahawk through my lens. It was massive, and Thorsen mastered it flawlessly, at least through my camera’s eye.
Mount Tomahawk, until next time.
